Pick a curated topic from the dropdown, or type your own word topic (e.g. "plant name") and hint type (e.g. "capital city", or "painting" for something related rather than a direct property, or just "picture" for an image hint). For free-text topics, choose Wikidata (ranked by how many languages have an article on each item, so rare/obscure entries stay out) or DBpedia, which queries DBpedia's own structured data directly — including hints that describe a related kind of thing rather than a direct property (e.g. "building" for a city, "painting" for a painter), which Wikidata alone can't answer. Wikidata automatically falls back to DBpedia if it can't find at least 50 well-known items (and a hint like "building" always goes to DBpedia, since there's no Wikidata equivalent). Word lists fetched this way are cached, so re-running the same topic/hint is instant. Free-input word/hint pairs are placed most-popular-first, so if not everything fits, it's the more obscure pairs that get left out. The tool builds a crossword (size set below, 10–30 per side) from whatever fits. Word starts and stops are marked with thick black bars instead of black squares; a light-yellow square marks the space in a two-part answer like "polar bear". Hover any filled cell to see its hint(s). Click a cell to start typing that word — the cursor jumps to its first unfilled letter and advances automatically as you type. Click a crossing cell (part of both an across and a down word) and it blinks until you press an arrow key to pick a direction. Correct letters flash green and stay. A wrong letter flashes red, then after a second reveals the correct letter with a turquoise background — the same permanent marker used by "Reveal random letters" — and costs the same single point either way. "Reveal all & finish" reveals everything at once and ends the game. Word-start bars are blue, word-end bars are black.
